Print photos straight from a smartphone

Posted in Articles on 16/5/2018

Ever wanted to print photos from a phone? You’re in luck! Printers these days are becoming more and more accustomed to user behaviour. Companies are realising we spend more and more time on our smart devices, and that traditional point-and-shoot photography is almost exclusively captured on our smartphones.

Forget hassling with wires and plugging your printer into your computer – you can now print your photos straight from your phone! We’ve put together some tips for the best results in easily printing photos from your smart phone to get high-quality prints every time you hit the ‘Print’ button.

The best place to start is to look for a wireless printer. Bluetooth and WiFi-enabled printers allow you to connect your smart devices and phones to send prints directly to the printer without the need of a computer.

Inkjet printers - why?

We at PB Tech recommended the HP Envy 7120 Inkjet which is great for printing photos on glossy paper. Simply pair your smartphone to the WiFi network the printer is connected to, download the free app, and start printing from your Camera Roll. You can also insert an SD card containing photos then view, edit and print photos quickly using the touchscreen found at the front of the printer. Plus it does all of that other regular printer stuff like printing from a computer, scanning, and copying.

If high-quality prints are important to you, you’re going to want to pick out an inkjet printer over a laser printer. Not only do they allow you to print on different types of paper (including glossy photo paper), they’re also typically cheaper to run. Inkjets are less expensive than laser printers and inkjet ink cartridges are cheaper than toner cartridges. Your inkjet printer also doesn’t need a warm-up before printing, so you can get your photos printed faster and more efficiently.

Gloss Paper

Having a great printer is one thing, but having high-quality printer paper is another. For that glossy, straight-out-of-the-pharmacy-printing-machine look, make sure you pick up some gloss paper.

We recommend the HP REAM 100 sheets Everyday A4 Photo Paper. Print colourful, everyday photos without breaking the bank. This paper is low-cost and will make your photos glossy - just like they were in the 20th century!

Now you’ve got your printer and gloss paper, it’s time to get your phone out! Below are some quick guides on how to print from iPhones and Android smartphones. For a full list of devices and instructions, click here
