On Tuesday 31st March 2020, the New Zealand Government allowed the sale of essential technology products to everyday Kiwis during the Alert Level 4 Lockdown to help them stay connected and support working / studying from home.
With this change, PB Tech has been inundated with orders for essential goods from customers all over New Zealand. Let’s take a look and see what people have been buying.
It is interesting to see a 5m HDMI cable as the most popular cable sold, since usually it’s the shorter 1M HDMI cables that are more popular. I suspect as many New Zealanders created that new home office setup in the living room / dining room the longer cable was the safer choice - and having too much cable is no problem compared to not having enough!
The WiFi extender is great to see and solves a common problem for sure, depending on the number of people and the size of your home you might also want to consider a thing called mesh Wi-Fi. If your budget allows for it in these challenging times, you can kiss goodbye to flaky Wi-Fi forever with one of these mesh Wi-Fi routers and in the process extend your network into all the rooms in your house, or even outdoors in the garden.
Cables have been PB’s best-selling category during the lockdown by the number of unique orders placed. Looking at the top 10 list, we see HDMI cables and DisplayPort cables to help people connect their new home office monitor; the trusty 10M flat network cable; the USB Type A Male to Type B Male aka ‘the modern day printer cable’ which people often need as Wi-Fi enabled printers don’t usually come with them anymore; and finally the ever popular lightning charging cable which is used to connect and charge the myriad of Apple devices, such as the charging case for the popular Apple earphones above!
Computer monitors have been another super popular category at PB during the lockdown. The venerable 24” monitor remains as popular as ever and is still our top recommendation for a home office monitor as it's big enough to enable you to be productive while still being quite affordable. If your budget allows, we do recommend considering an ultra-wide monitor as it offers extra screen real-estate making split screen multitasking a breeze.
