And, as with all our bulbs and spotlights, it comes with an enhanced 3 year warranty upon registration.

INSTALLATION INFORMATION

You will need recess this light into your ceiling/wall using a ?110mm cut out. Please note that this light can't be surface mounted.
It comes complete with an LED driver which uses a simple 'male to female' connection for ease of installation.

Down-lights have been popular for a long time now, what are the draught and insulation issues associated with down-lights?

Down-lights are one of my pet hates. They are so wrong on many fronts. I will give you a few examples.

a) They get extremely hot, up to 300 degrees Celsius which is hotter than most domestic ovens. I have a portable convection oven in my kitchen. It uses a halogen lamp to do the cooking. Why would you have something that can cook meat in your ceiling?

b) You must have a minimum clearance of 20cm around each downlight which can severely reduce your ceiling insulation and put extra load on your heating systems.

c) Many down-lights have gaps around the edges of the fitting or, if they are gimballed (movable) they will be large gaps. This does two things. Firstly these gaps act like little chimneys that lets your central heating leak into your roof space and when the heating is not on it allows cool air from the roof to drop down into the rooms, making the house even colder.

d) Following on from this, when you turn the down-lights on, they super heat the air underneath them which causes a super up-draught that will literally suck the warm air out of the room. If you are built on stumps and you have polished floorboards this can suck cool air from under the house into the room through small gaps between the floorboards.

e) They use a lot of energy to run. Four down-lights on 6 hours per day can cost over $157 per year to run. Which is more than an average (under 10 years old) domestic refrigerator uses.

We have a simple solution and can be done yourselves provided that it is an owner occupied residential property .

Simply replace the existing vented downlight with this un-vented LED version, you could save money on power bills, also keep rooms warmer.

Good cheap LED lighting

23 July 2018
Good, but not great, I upgraded my old downlights that let warm air escape into the ceiling space. They vanish into the ceiling so the lighting is no longer a standout (ugly) feature. The downside to these lights is that they don't emit constant light, you notice a flicker if you move your hands around (like washing the dishes), you don't notice them when watching the tv etc. These lights use half the power the older energy efficient (CCFL) bulbs did, and they put out more light than a 24W bulb.
