These are great bulbs (especially when PB Tech has them on special!). For the last few years, i've been using this quite happily with Home Assistant (open source smart home software, using the Yee Light Integration)

But sadly, with the latest firmware, Xi are disabling local control, so smart home software can't see them, and you have to use the Xiaomi Home app. There is a workaround of not applying the latest firmware (but unpatched IoT devices doesn't seem like a good idea)

The Xiaomi Home app - which you need to control them - is pretty ordinary. It basically only allows you to have a few brightness levels and flash, but no connectivity to anything. The other big problem is how Xi handle regions. Anything from NZ is under the NZ region, anything from China is under China - and the two are completely separate, and to regions you have to take a few minutes to login to your other account - not a good thing if you want to turn on your bulb or check your camera

So - as a bulb, I like these for reliability, brightness, price so 5 stars
As a an IoT bulb, they are increasingly useless, so 2 stars for that

Needs 2.4Ghz network to work. I could try tweaking the band steering stuff, but it seems its not as much "plug and play " as it should be. From the start these bulbs were difficult to connect to the wifi, and never functioned with any ease. In the end we settled for just having energy efficient, LED bulbs that we didn’t use for any smart home functionality. However, now a year in, and the bulbs just randomly dim and fluctuate in brightness. Started with one, and now 4 of 8 are doing this. I added these lights as part of my existing smart home setup and they work very well. I can control them from both the Xiaomi Home and Google Home apps as well as my Nest devices. Just the best thing... my lights are as a group so no more running around switching several switches on to get the correct lighting. just one push on my phone.. yes do not even need to leave my seat.
but that's no all ...I can dim when i couldn't before and i can get lights to schedule on off so looks like i am at home when I am not . great for security. Easy enough to set up for someone who has a bit of tech saviness.
I've got it connected up on both the Xiaomi app as well as connected to my Amazon Alexa - which is extraordinarily handy to voice control the lights.
You can set them to turn on at particular hours, so I use them as another form of an alarm in the mornings.
Occasional issue of one light switching on and not the rest when using voice control, but that could be due to how I set them up as a group and just takes some rephrasing. Easy enough to set up for someone who has a bit of tech saviness.

Bought and used the 3 lights for my galley shaped kitchen. Quick and easy to setup on Xiaomi and works well with Google Assistant.
