- SD card needed when you want to save footage on the device (needs to be bought separately as the device comes with no storage!)

If you are looking for a cheap way to run some security camera's around or in your house you should consider TP-link Tapo. That said there are more elegant solutions for your home security but these cost heaps more.

Overall very impressed with the Tapo C310, especially with a product that has so many useful features but does not require a subscription to a provider service to store and retrieve data. One downside is that the camera needs 230v mains power to operate, meaning that installation can be more involved than if it was also battery operated. This requirement should be more clearly pointed out in advertising so the buyers know exactly what will be required to install and operate this device. Very happy with this purchase. Super easy to set up and monitor from cell phone. Picture is clear, recordings and notifications are prompt. We now have peace of mind after a spate of burglaries around our area. Will be purchasing a couple more for other areas of our home. Highly recommend. Very happy with this purchase. I started my home security system some 3 years ago with Xiaomi cameras from PB Tech, the Tapo C310 is a such a big upgrade over my current system.
This outdoor C310 camera is mounted under the eaves pointing down the driveway and onto a busy main road.
There is option to start recording with Motion Detection, Person Detection, Line Crossing Detection, and Area Detection, option to select multiple zones,
Eg: With motion detection, I exclude main road part and only record when motion or person is detected on my driveway

Pros:
- 3.89mm lens Field of View 100/84/46(Diagonal/horizontal/vertical) about right for my situation
- IP66 rated so is suitable for outdoor use
- Long 3 meter cable is supplied integral with a 230 to 9 volt output power supply, 5.5mm push in connector into camera fly lead,
it means that I did have to run 230volt power supply cable to the power adapter in the ceiling cavity.
- MicroSD card storage up to 512Gb, which is a lot !
- Separate AI detection for motion, persons, boundary intrusion
- Able to select multiple detection zones and sensitivity
- Can set Alarm mode with siren
- 2.4G Wifi or ethernet cable connection (but no PoE)
- 2K 2304 x 1296 camera has higher resolution than 1080P
- The twin external antennaes are supposed to allow enhanced wifi coverage
- The Tapo App for Android is well designed, intuitive and easy to use, love the large thumbnails for recorded videos
- It says 2 year warranty on the box
Cons:
- Need to drill a minimum 22mm hole through soffit to feed through the RJ45 and power connector tails
-The microSD slot and reset button is located on the underside covered by a fiddly small panel with 2 tiny screws that could be easily lost,
you will have to take the camera down to replace the microSD, as they often fail after a couple of years of use

Conclusion:
Recording only with the smart AI detection of objects is far superior to the old dumb motion detection
Great Tapo App, outdoor suitability, 512Gb Storage and Smart AI detection at this price point is streets ahead of the competition !!!

This is the fourth camera of this brand and they've worked really well. although the 15fps does make it difficult to see a lot of detail at times. The TP-Link Tapo C310 is perfect for what I wanted in that it provides an extra layer of security for our property. The quality of the visuals is excellent
and very High definition. The challenge is when to use the many choices of activation notifications....

Has pretty decent coverage, rainproof, although it is a wired solution, which means you'll be running extension cables from your power point to the camera's power adapter.

The camera is easy to install and works well. There is a light that flashes when a person is detected, so they are warned they are on camera. This can be disabled. The audio is clear and the microphone is very sensitive. The camera is also very clear. I had no issues connecting it up and operating it. A very good product for its price.
