TP-Link Tapo D230S1 5MP/2K+ Wire-Free Smart Battery Video Doorbell with Chime

I have this glued to the glass beside my door. Didn't want to have to drill holes in my door incase it wasn't what I really really wanted.
Again same procedure for setting this up as all the other Tapo kit. AND if at first you don't suck seed just try again. And if that doesn't work charge the battery.
Worked for me, aaaaaaaand it works through the door glass. Bonus. The HUB is just on the other side on the other hand.

And again now that its setup with the home network and its talking to my phone.
The door bell can be accessed using the phone app.
You can use the camera to look out of. Talk through the mic etc...
It even rings a chime when you pushing the button like a regular door bell.

As it says, this one doesn't work in the same way as other tp-link cameras. You can NOT access the streams directly with a DVR (iSpy or Agent) or even with VLC or a browser.

So just be aware of that before you buy..

Also please note that the setup is much more complicated in comparison to other cameras. The first difference is that the doorbell camera connects to your network through a seperate 'hub' unit, which first needs to be set up by using an ethernet cable connected to your router. (ie: at this point it is not wifi) so you will need a spare cat5 socket on your router/switch at this point (a Cat5 cable is included in the box). After the 'hub' is set up with this method, you have the option to connect to your network through wifi. And from then on the set up is pretty much the same as a camera, using your tapo app and the bluetooth on your phone..

One other limitation not mentioned in the TP-link ads is that the camera cannot be set to record 24/7, the battery would not last as long (obviously), but it would be nice to have that option.

However the build quality and picture image is very good, and if the watherproof is as good as advertised, it should last me quite a few years.. perhaps until the battery fails and no replacement is available. (it's not a standard battery = $$?)

It certainly does the job, however a few claims are overstated. For example, the literature says it'll last up to 6 months on a single charge with up to 10 detections a day. Mine didn't last 3 months.

The literature also says it can have a solar panel connected. While the doorbell uses the same batteries as other Tapo wireless cameras that have a USB port on them, it is not possible to charge the device and use it at the same time due to no entry points into the chassis for the cable. Also, beware people confuse the motion sensor dome for the button - even with "Press Here" stickers on the actual button - all the time. I only assume the squared-off design confuses people.

Wish I'd bought the Nest Doorbell.

TP-Link makes a lot of things right with this video doorbell. However, I estimate that most of the video doorbells replace a wired doorbell.
