I bought this drive for its features but thought I would just check with the manufacturer that it is compatible with my laptop, which runs Windows 10, before I opened the packaging. This is a quote from the reply, "With regards to your concern, the model GP70NS50 is designed with compatibility to work with the following Operating Systems only.

I am certainly glad I asked, but it is regrettable that the product advertising information does not mention the operating systems with which it is compatible even if such information does not assist in selling the product. I will be returning the drive to PBTech for a refund but wonder why anyone would manufacture and sell a computer accessory that does not work with Windows 10. Unloading obsolete stock, perhaps? It's fine if you have a Mac but still most consumer-level computers are Windows PCs.

Perhaps because of the earlier installation, Windows 10 did not see this either. Took it back to PB Tech the next day, but when I turned the laptop on, Windows had found it! It works fine. Two slightly strange features: no lights go on when it is plugged in, and it doesn't actally open - you just slip the disc in like posting a letter. This works brilliantly. I'm a bit old fashioned so I still have a few DVDs/CD-ROMs around the place so an optical drive is a must for me. I've watched a free DVDs with this and seems to work well. Only downside that Windows now charges $20 to have the option of having a DVD playing app, but there are a few free ones out there. This works brilliantly. What a great little DVD Writer, so compact and yet so versatile and easy to use. It doesn't use the old pop out draw system, instead the disc is just silently and smoothly accepted into the case and expelled when the eject button is pressed. A pleasure to use!! Been using product for about a month now. It works well the only down side is the constant barrage of ads to buy software for this & that which is both annoying & hard to get rid of .Otherwise does what it says on the tin. Although I rarely need an optical drive, I've worked out it's still something I can't do without altogether. This is fast, quiet and worked without any software installation required on OS X.
