Netgear NightHawk AX8 RAXE300 (AXE7800) Tri-Band 8-Stream WiFi 6E Router

The router works really well and love having 3 channels 2.4, 5 and 6ghz. One thing that stumped me for a bit though when setting up was that I had to change VLAN / Bridge Settings.
If you find you're not connecting to the internet, go to your Advanced Settings, then VLAN / Bridge Settings.
Then tick 'Enable VLAN Bridge Group' and choose 'By VLAN tag group'.

The unit is great. I was struggling to get it connected directly to my Fibre ONT. I took the router to PB Tech in Henderson and I spoke with Brad. He was extremely helpful, spent a good amount of time helping me sort out the issue. He managed to get it sorted. When I got home I plugged the router directly to the Fibre ONT, entered the Netgear WiFi password and voila, I had Internet. I tested the routers speed and it was delivering 950mbs, as with the old one I was struggling to get more than 400mbs. I was upgrading my Nighthawk D7000 that was dropping off for no reason. I was told by PBT staff I could connect this directly to fibre and after calls with Spark, Chorus and Netgear, I still couldn't get it connected and they all told me differing stories on ability of router to connect directly to the ONT. I was returning it to the store and Steven (PBTech Penrose) helped set it up in the store so that when I connected it up at home it logged on directly and no problems. Performance has been great and no more dropping off the network and YES a router can be connected to the ONT without a modem. Thanks PB Tech for the support. This router does exactly as advertised! The performance is superb and handles multiple devices without issue simultaneously. We have an Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Chromecast, smartphones, and computers connected simultaneously and experience no connectivity issues. This router also supports VLAN tagging and lets you customise which ports and bands you want to apply the tagging to. In our case, we are with Skinny who do not require VLAN tagging, so kept it disabled. There is a preset which applies the VLAN tagging across all ports and bands but is disabled by default; this can be enabled.

Extremely easy to setup especially with the app, the only thing required for setup was enabling the VLAN from advanced setup and it worked perfectly. Absolutely no speed degradation. Netflix now loads instantly even while gaming. Highly recommend to all and well worth the little bit extra for future proofing with wifi6e. Bloody kids and their technology! “Dad the old router ain’t cutting it”. Lo and behold my simple card game app was lagging too.

Cue the research into the night hawk! And what a saviour it has been! Kids no longer moan about the “ping rate”???, the mrs gets to watch a perfect stream on tv and dad plays cards on his phone!
