Hard to say, there are so many outside factors that play into this like how many neighbours are crowding the wifi spectrum, wall density, etc. easy to recommend two if currently get very bad signal at top and bottom, or only one if ok at top/bottom

As long as you are still getting a strong signal in the area you are planning on putting the receiver, yes. Ideally you want the receiver around halfway between the router and the target area, in order to maximise coverage and strength.

Yes, it can either be configured to share the SSID, or use a seperate SSID which will be named by default with the suffix "_EXT" on the end of the primary SSID.
