I have played with multiple types of wireless extenders, with various amounts of success. The Amplifi solution from Ubiquiti is perhaps the easiest to set up, and it does exactly what it says on the box. I have a real firewall at home, so the Amplifi is just being used as an access point with two remote mesh points - I'm not using any of the router features. The three devices are used to deliver coverage across my 2 story, 200 sq m house, and there are normally 20-odd devices connected across them. Performance from the most distant client devices is not brilliant (about 70mb/s), but thats more to do with the construction and shape of the...view more
We have an old house and have had issues with the Wi-Fi quality from our old system. The new system was easy to install and with the lights on the satellites it was easy to determine when they were in range.
Me router failed and the system is now useless as the meshpoint are locked in firmware to the router. You cant connect a new router to thjse points. The users on the amplfi forum are well f'd off.
Hi,
I bought this for my 2 storey 300sq/m house. I have the router at one end and the two mesh points in the middle an other end of house. Downstairs I get 96 Mbps of my 100Mbps fibre and upstairs I get about 50 - 60Mbps so very happy.
I can have two TV's running Netflix and one Xbox gaming and have no latency issues at all as well as a couple of laptops surfing the web. I live on an acre and can get wifi on the whole property.
Easy to setup using the App. I connected mine direct to Chorus ONT so just have to configure the PPPOE username and password and set it to VLAN 10 and then setup the wifi. Very easy to do. Not the cheapest but o...view more
Not cheap compared to many on the market, but after setup (which was reasonably easy and the app is great) we have been running for two weeks now without a single glitch or drop off. Signal strength is 5-bars over the entire house and it just works. Performance is fantastic - so much so, I can probably get rid of the power-net adaptors I use for the HD streaming.
The little router is cute and well designed and looks much nicer than the standard fair.
One little trick to note is not to use this to replace the Spark modem (even through it can), as this does not support the phone, so if you have your telephone connected (as we do) via fibr...view more

This is definitely not plug in play. I expected much more from mesh tech in the first place.
Placement matter a lot and only slight misplacement causes terrible speed.
You cannot configure which device (antenna) is connected where...which
most of the time causes daisy chaining reaction, which is again terrible for performance.
With my 900mbps fibre at home, this router can switch only around half of that speed.
And on gigabit ETHERNET cat6 cable I can achieve maybe 500mbps.
Same for wifi...you can get maybe 400mbit...definitely not claimed values.
This has really made a big difference to Wifi across our house. We don't have any blackspots any more. It is relatively easy to set up. The only drama is if you want to plug it into the ONT box directly, and not go through the rubbish modem that comes with most internet packages. I managed to do this using Google and getting the PPPoE username and password off my provider (Orcon) in this case. You have to manually change the settings using the APP to achieve it, but it was worth doing as it meant I could get rid of the Fritzbox which had given woeful speed and coverage since installation.
Mesh units are much closer to the DSL modem than I had expected and only just covering the single store house. Units are less than 10m from the modem any further and they would not communicate.
