Ubiquiti EdgeRouter ER-X Advanced Gigabit Router

Not your usual consumer grade plug and play router - needs a little bit of effort to set up but there are plenty of great guides out there and the built in wizards do a pretty good job. Make sure you enable hardware offloading as that massively increases the throughput of the router. Currently in use as first phase of home network upgrade with the 5 ports providing just enough to hardwire the important things (1 WAN / 4 LAN). Took a little setup, as a casual networker - I needed the device to route between my home wireless access points, and stretched my ability to get the UFB routing part working.
Since getting it up, it's been solid - couldn't be happier for the basic features.
One note - the edgeos platform is end of life; while still solid for all the expected features, the app definitions for network monitoring are getting a bit dated. Totally not a network person, but even I could figure this out (thanks YouTube) hooked up to an AP over POE. The dashboard is good, way too advanced for me, but even seeing some basic info is good. Definitely a good peice of kit. I'm lucky I work in IT and was recommended this and taught how to set it up. Just have to make sure you turn off QOS if you want all the beans. I've used it for over a month now and I'm quite impressed with this router, does everything I need it to do and more!

Just make sure you enable hardware offloading to get the full gigabit speed.
I enabled 'hwnat' and 'ipsec' offloading but you can do so much more when you dive deeper. I've used it for over a month now and I'm quite impressed with this router, does everything I need it to do and more!

Noticeable improvement straight away.
Webpage load time was quicker after upgrading to this device.
This is not a plug and play Router. You must have some IT knowledge or familiar with Ubiquiti products and software.
Depending on your connection type you may need to enable VLAN10.
CLI from the interface and enable hwnat to improve speed.
open CLI > login with username and password

for the price of the unit, you cannot complain about the value, can be a little cumbersome to configure, but once done it was pretty seemless and worked well straight away.
there are also a couple of tweaks that fully open the speed capability.

Great small unit. I'm running a number of these as a POE pass-through switch to cameras/APs etc and they work perfectly and the built-in wizard is great for this. The only tricky part is if you are doing any port forwards you need to set this on the device as well. No need for the power adapter in this mode. Great small unit. Fantastic little router for the home.

Bought it to run the full 1Gb line speed (with hardware offloading enabled) and using it with UNMS to monitor the network a bit easier.

It's a bit more setup than just plug and play, but once completed, it just works and you can essentially forget about it.
