HP LaserJet Pro M283FDW Colour Laser Multifunction Printer

I have used many laser printers but keep coming back to HP for reliability, and affordability of consumables. For a small office/home office this printer is one of the best. Do not confuse with the M283FDN though which does not allow for printing from your phone/tablet. This version the M283FDW does allow it. I bought this one instead of the M283fdn not because I need WiFi just now but incase circumstances change and I relocate the printer away from where it currently is which is right next to the network router. So my review is of this printer plugged into the ethernet of my home office network.
Once plugged in it just worked.
I use Apple Mac's and my desktop, laptop, iphone and ipad could all see it on the network and adding it was very easy on all devices. On Macs just open the Settings App and select Printers & Scanners. Click the + in the bottom left corner. Done.

A quick google and visit to HP's website which directed me to the Mac App store to down the free HP application "HP Smart". Installed and scanning was easy.
Not the best scanning software or quality I've ever had to use and when I tried to scan directly with Affinity Photo I got garbled images. So 7/10 for scanning.
Prints fast, double side and nice quality.
Photocopies well.
Foot print isn't too large at about 40cm wide and 45cm deep so fits nicely on my desk.
I might come back and moan about this later but for now it does what I expected and I'm happy with it.

Have only had it for a couple of weeks but so far am happy with the product. Easy to connect and install and good quality printing, although the quality of colour photos isn't very high. It's still early days, but so far this has been an ideal printer. I upgraded from using an inkjet so by comparison, this delivers good quality, fast prints. love the mobile app, very easy to use and remotely print from your phone. In recent years I have been buying Brother Printers but this seemed a very good buy with the current cash back promotion. So far I am very happy and the HP Smart Print app is great across all the platforms (iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS). It is so good to be able to print direct from the Mobile Phone and not sure if Brother offers this but HP makes it very simple. As other people have commented the colour output is not really photo quality but more than sufficient for most things and otherwise very fast which is great. We always buy HP but this printer has driven me up the wall with continual error messages "Printer Offline". Initially it loaded up fine but then errors started. I have tried the online fixes, HP helplines, reloaded the driver and used the printer help software even had an expert look at it. With a new HP laptop and a new HP printer my expectations was that setup be seamless. Sorry to rant but please DO NOT Buy this printer. HP need to sort out their software issues. The ordering process was fairly easy. The only downside was the tracking by NZ Couriers. It said on the tracking website that it had left the distribution centre and was in transit to me but that took 3 days. It then said it was out with the courier and you will receive it today. But it came the next day. Delivery was fine. It was a bit heavy (18kg) for the lady so I got her to just leave it on the path and I would take it in from there. A pro was the easy set up. Some of the written instructions were a bit out of alignment with the website, but I understood it. An elderly person may not. The printer is within my peripheral vision and i have had to put a piece of masking tape over it so I can'rt see it flashing. We have only had it a week and printed only about 40 pages but that would be our normal usage. We shopped around and PB offered the best price including delivery as we live in the country.
