Have the right expectations
I would recommend when purchasing to make sure one is comfortable with windows. It is far from a simple click-and-go setup such as consoles. I spent one hour-ish updating all the Windows updates, then got the most up-to-date bios for the ally. Luckily if you sign into the Asus app, then it makes the process easier. But so far the performance is excellent. And quite amazing. I play World of Warships, and the rog ally does 1440p medium-high setting above 60fps on an external monitor. Pretty impressive. But be willing to have to tinker a lot with settings and the system. Otherwise I would highly recommend
A great device, for the right person
This thing can run basically anything you can throw at it , games, emulation, spreadsheets etc. Its a Windows device .. what do you expect . If you think its going to be like a console with dedicated software then look elsewhere. Windows has its quirks and we all hate it but as a PC user you just get used to it and find ways to streamline how you use the device . Think of it as a laptop with joycons . Screen is great for an LCD and you can tweak performance to what you like. Software will get better over time. Till then best performing handheld in the market right now by a mile.

Portable gaming beast
Can't believe how dope and powerful this thing is... As long as you can wrap your head around windows which I prefer since your not limited to anything.. you can use every game launcher available.
It's definitely a windows PC so there will be updating and tinkering which I actually enjoy.
Have already cracked her open and replaced the SSD with a 2tb card, ASUS has a built in ASUS cloud recovery that flashes everything back to factory on the new SSD which was a godsend.
Only downside to me is pretty poor battery life (which I don't really care about as I prefer it plugged in to push it to it's full potential anyway)

Have had a steam deck and I can confirm that this is way better in every way!
Great unit, few issues...
Its the best handheld you can currently get...but... it has the usual Windows issues, they same you would expect on a PC/Laptop. There is currently an issue with SD Cards overheating and frying the SD card reader, and on my unit (and many others) the is a little wobble as they thumbtack caps don't fit the shaft of the joystick properly (easily fixed with a little teflon tape). Still, the pros outweigh the cons and I will be keeping this after owning 2 x Steam Decks... the Ally is worth buying for the superior screen alone (the screen is the real let down of the Steam Deck(
An awesome purchase
A great product
Box of malfunction
Highly disappointed with the device. Within just 3 months, it stopped charging, leading to a month-long service ordeal where Asus replaced the entire motherboard. Now, after only 2 months, I'm facing a dead controller and non-functional buttons. It's back in for service, and I anticipate another month of waiting. Regretfully, this purchase has been a letdown, and returning it is no longer an option.
Mindblowingly good, but some tech knowledge is required.
The ROG Ally is an amazing piece of gaming kit - it has played everything I've thrown at it at high FPS and high quality graphics. That said, it is a Windows machine, with all the issues taht can have. So I'm not sure I would like it as much if I was less tech savvy. There are semi-frequent weird things that require a bit of figuring out, but for anyone semi-decent at Windows it should be fine.
I love this thing and don't use my main PC for gaming anymore (and it's a very powerful PC).
Good buy
Great performance for a handheld. I have the ayn loki 6600u and this is a great upgrade from that. A bit heavy if you play longer times but this can easily metigated by using a external controller.
I love this device.
Very happy with my purchase. Awesome device with great performance. I use it all the time mostly for older games but it plays Destiny 2 at 60fps easily which I'm happy with.
My one issue is the limited storage. For a game device 500gb is not much. Yes there is a SD card slow but a 1tb SD is really expensive. Otherwise it's great.
Does exactly what I need
The ROG Ally is great for what i need, the screen is gorgeous. it's a little portable power house, it won't run AAA games at max but if you really want you can buy a XG Mobile GPU or if you have a setup like myself you can stream games to it from your main pc.
