ASUS ROG Ally X 7" FHD Touch 120Hz Gaming Handheld

Had mine for about 3 days (about a day of play) before it would randomly black screen. It's a not a one off problem looking at reddit especially with the first batch it appears. Took a month to get refund without any explanation on the fault.

The ALLY X is honestly the best handheld I’ve ever used — it’s basically a full Windows gaming PC that fits in my backpack, so I can play AAA games like Cyberpunk or Starfield on the bus, at a café, or anywhere without feeling like I’m missing out on power. The controls feel solid, the screen is sharp and smooth, and it runs anything I throw at it — Steam, Xbox Game Pass, mods, you name it — just like my desktop at home. Got this to replace my Rog Ally
The extra power and the extra battery life really makes a difference.
Also Rog made some changes and updates making the Ally and Ally x more powerful and smoother than before.

Running on Windows is both its greatest strength and one of the biggest weaknesses: it's amazingly flexible and has a great game selection, but sometimes Windows gets in my face when I really don't want it to. Sometimes it gets stuck with a pop-up where it's easier to restart the thing than to figure out how to get out of it. Sometimes it doesn't sleep properly and I pull it out of the case to find it very hot with fans screaming - this is fixed by remembering to explicitly hibernate it when I'm putting it away. Overall I'd say the biggest downfall is UI reliability.

I haven't played on any other PC handhelds so I can't compare it to those, only to my desktop PC and my Nintendo Switch. My PC is more powerful and has a mouse, ultra-wide monitor, nice headset, etc - I've still been playing a lot more on the Ally most of the time in the month or so since I bought it, because of its portability. My Switch is much cheaper, much more polished, and more reliable - but the Ally has a better game selection, better ecosystems, and is much more powerful, so the Switch is mostly left for my nephews to play on.
Overall the balance between performance, portability, and game selection suits me really well. Despite the glitches I'm very happy with it.

This is an absolutely amazing device for the most part. It handles gaming very well, and (with a keyboard, mouse and external monitor) is a very capable PC for non-gaming tasks too. The battery life in particular is utterly incredible - having previously had an Ayaneo 2 (a similar device), battery life was a real sore spot on that one, but the Ally X's battery holds up very well, it even puts many laptops to shame.

My personal experience is no build quality issues, but I did have issues with the crashes - although, touch wood, it hasn't happened in a while now. If future batches improve the build quality consistency, and ASUS do end up resolving the crashes, then this would be a definite 5/5 device.
