PNY NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 OC 16GB GDDR7 Graphics Card

This card was purchased as I randomly noticed some stock available. I was initially intending to buy a 5090 but the lack of availability, missing ROP scandal, melting connectors and sky high prices means I just cant justify that sort of money on such a half baked product, happy to report no ROP's escaped this PNY card on the way from the factory.

Just doing the 5080 is a compromise where it is getting bottlenecked a bit by my 5800x and AM4 motherboard, though for the most part in VR the performance uplift is great enough I'll skip another gen for CPU and the 5080 is a poorly priced stopgap. The drivers have flat out sucked, it took 3 or 4 DDU cycles to get the display to output, and it is still doing something weird where it continually resets the resolution to the DLSS resolution every time the PC is restarted. I suspect this is still driver jank related as there are wide reports of black screens and other nonsense (which are mentioned in the driver release notes). This annoyance aside, it seems to run reasonably cool, and at 330W peakish draw with no further overclock it seems stable otherwise. Hate the new connector, wish they would give up on it. If you simply must upgrade and you are on 30 series or older I would probably go for a PNY at 2700 or one of the 7090 AMD cards as a stopgap until the GPU market is less retarded, If you have a 40 series card at 4070 or higher I think it would be hard to recommend this...

Great 5080 for the price compared to other AIB's priced at over 3k. Absolutely no problems at all. These cards are very efficient, the stock curve and overclock is very conservative. Coming from a 30 series card to a 50series isn't so bad and this costed less than my 3090 and gives me double sometime triple the performance native.
If I added some fake frames then more I assume but no need. The best thing about the 5080 series is it sits just above the 4070ti but boost clocks on even a basic model like this one are through the roof stock.

Advertised to something around 2700mhz boost I've watched it auto-clock to a tickle under 3000mhz @ 65 degrees and sustain this performance.
So what can you do.. not the uplift we all wanted but if you are coming from a top end 30 series the 5080 will not disappoint. 5090 seemed excessive, this was a good option. However, the pricing could be better. I recommend the 5080 if you're looking for an upgrade.
