Given we now get a 20% discount on our electricity usage between 9pm and 7am, I wanted a smart plug to control charging our EV in the garage. I’ve got it currently setup to only automatically charge one night a week but may add another night. I like how it also records the actual kWh and the cost too. That should allow me to calculate the efficiency of the charging system. It lets me turn on and off whatever I plug into it remotely which is a big part of why I purchased it. The power monitoring while nice could be better. The unit is compact and discreet, it has good connectivity and compatibility. I registered for TP Link’s Tappo Service, then connected to Samsung Smart things so I can measure the electrical usage with all my other devices. Easy to integrate with Google assistant.
Despite using it only with a low-power LED light, the device gets warmer than I would expect.

I bought this to monitor my home office equipment in particular. From what I discovered I have now customised my PC's power settings save me at my power bill level. The more recent software for these things makes set-up relatively stress free. It plays nice with the other sensors in the Tapo ecosystem. I like the data recording, works well. A breeze to add to both the TP-Link app, as well as directly to Apple HomeKit using the Matter protocol. The only downside is that the energy monitoring is not available through Apple Home, although that may be a limitation of Matter. Bought two, is currently my goto smart plug. Unlike others, it doesn't block the adjacent plugs on a double-outlet (looking at you WeMo, EVE, Hue)! Setting up the smart plug only took around 30 seconds, and it's been functioning smoothly ever since. Considering its price, I'd say this product is definitely a must-have!
