I am loving my new disc player, colors are sharp and the sound quality is good.
Only downer is the software it runs keeps on asking for an upgrade that brings with it a yearly subscription I did not want when I brought this. I am loving my new disc player, colors are sharp and the sound quality is good.

Although disc-based drives are becoming obsolete, I still have a significant amount of older material on CDs, DVDs & Blu Ray disc that I need to access from time to time. This Drive fulfils that need for me very well. I purchased this unit as I don't use optical discs very often these days, so I thought having something that covered, CD, DVD and BD as well as the ability to write would be value for money.

However the main reason I purchased this is my mum has moved into care and I wanted to rip all her CD"s to MP3's so I could load them all on to music player for folks with Dementia to enjoy music without too many complex controls.

Now you would think ripping simple old CD's wouldn't be hard. But this drive is hopeless, some of mum's CD's are spotless, to the point that I wonder if she ever played the CD after maybe the first listen. But this optical drive constantly get's stuck on tracks hunting back and forth in the same area. I can unplug the drive and replug it back in and it will rip the track perfectly, which proves the problem is not he disc, but rather the drive. Even running the ripping process at the slowest speed has no impact on the relaibiltiy. I have checked the drives firmware, but it has the most recent firmware.

I am slowly getting through the task I have to do, but having to frequently reset the device is making the job harder than it should be. I can't yet comment on how good it is at handling DVD and BluRay, but the fact that simple CD's flumox this drive is concerning for the overall quality of the design.

Have only recently acquired this drive; the few times it's been used it has performed exactly as it should. Mounting the drive (first time use (Win11 Pro)) was no problem and old data-laden CDs (etc) from the desk drawer vault were read with aplomb. And such a slim thing, too! Very happy with this purchase - I plugged it in and it works. Slim and portable are perhaps understatements. It's so small and light I thought it was too flimsy and fragile. But it's been processing plenty of disks and still going strong - just treat it carefully and it'll be fine. Very happy with this purchase - I plugged it in and it works. Reads at pretty much the full advertised speed, which is about as good as you can get. Haven't tried writing yet but hope to get to that soon. A little noisy at full tilt, but not really any more than I'd expect from a portable drive. Needs to be treated with care as long-term things like micro-USB connectors on the drive itself can be fragile, but at least the supplied cable isn't captive. You need two free USB sockets as the cable is of the split type, to ensure the device gets enough power (USB-2, I imagine).

Recognised out-of-box by macOS / MakeMKV.
