Amazon eero 6+ (AX3000) Dual-Band WiFi 6 Mesh System with Built-in Zigbee Smart Home Hub - 1 Pack

Two days ago I purchased an Eero 6+ from PB Tech, expecting it to work directly with my NZ fibre ONT, as you would with most routers. Nowhere on PB Tech’s website did it mention that this device does NOT support VLAN tagging, which is required by most NZ ISPs (2degrees, Spark, Voyager, Slingshot, etc.).

The Problem
• Eero 6+ does NOT support VLAN tagging, so it cannot connect directly to the ONT in NZ.
• PB Tech failed to mention this anywhere on their product listing.

PB Tech Should Be More Transparent

❌ Nowhere in the product description does PB Tech warn customers about this issue.
❌ Most people would assume a router will work with their ONT, but Eero does NOT unless you buy extra equipment.

What PB Tech Should Do

✅ Clearly state on the product page that Eero does NOT support VLAN 10 and requires additional hardware for NZ fibre users.
✅ Advise customers to buy a managed switch (e.g., TP-Link TL-SG105E) or use an ISP router in bridge mode.
✅ Improve customer support around NZ network compatibility issues.

⚠️ If you’re in NZ and buying Eero 6+ from PB Tech, BE AWARE: It will NOT work directly with your ONT.
🚫 You’ll need to buy additional hardware, which PB Tech does not tell you upfront.

Despite the instructions, before you start make sure you have the details for the connection to your ISP. It did not make a reasonable guess for the settings for fibre connection to 2degrees.
Once past that hurdle, setup was a breeze and everything else was back up and running surprisingly quickly. The work laptop that wouldn't connect on previous wifi 6 had no problems connecting to the new wifi 6 mesh system.
The reduced number of wired network ports meant there wasn't one available for Brother mfc-J6955dw which doesn't play well with wireless connections. A switch is a necessity to add enough ports.
