Eaton 3S 850VA / 510W Standby Powerboard Desktop UPS, 4 X Sockets with Battery Backup - 4 X Sockets with surge protection, 2 X USB Charging ports - 2 Years Warranty

Purchased one of these as a UPS to connect to my Synology NAS. Setup was straightforward, connected the USB cable from UPS to NAS and the NAS saw the UPS. Left it overnight and then removed the power to test that all was okay. It wasn't and the UPS immediately died, red light came on and began beeping and of course took down my NAS. Oddly the beeping continued even with no external power connected.

The good news is that PB Tech took it back and sourced another from the supplier, which has behaved perfectly. Top marks for the service from PB Tech. I have my router and fiber OTN plugged into the mains ports, and my raspberry pi 4 plugged into the USB port. During a recent 45 minute power cut while maintenance was being done on the meter this powered the devices with no problems. I plugged it into my computer and turned off all the beeping because it's in a bedroom. The battery is only 9ah or so, but it should last a couple of hours. One MAJOR FLAW is that, out of the box, this device was set to 240 or 220V output when on battery, anyway, NZ is 230V and it wouldn't power my network switches or router when on battery, basically anything with one of those small DC converter power bricks, it won't play nice.
Using Eaton IPP software, which I prefer, you can't change the output voltage.

having suffered a couple of power cuts at critical times, this product has been an absolute must. despite power fluctuations, all my drives and data were preserved and the product is a must for anyone worried about data critical projects. Great purchase, got it on a good sale about a month ago. Using the linux Network UPS Tools (NUT) to monitor it, fully supported, works well. Running a few devices on it, with master/slave auto shut down. Battery is easy to access if required.

Only con is like other people have mentioned, the sockets point inward, so make sure any adapters you are using won't interfere before purchase. I knew this going in and works fine for what I have, standard moulded plugs and raspberry pi power supply (wings need trimming - same as any other power board - really not sure what the RPI foundation was thinking with that design). I am using this powerboard with a Raspberry Pi 4 + SSD, Router, NVR, x2 Switches (small ones) and 2x mini cooling fans - the software is reporting 47minutes standby time which I think is pretty impressive. Easy to setup, but it's not exactly compact and is quite a heavy piece of kit. I've been using APC devices for the past 10 years, but after I went through 3 of them in a 5 year period I decided to give another brand a try. I settled on the Eaton 3S 850VA due to the size and features offered. It's certainly a smaller form factor, but all the plugs face inwards, which if you have a lot of devices with the brick-style power plugs with wings and the bottom-fed cable, then it doesn't work as they don't fit :( Otherwise, if you're using a standard "jug"/IEC plug then it's fine.
