Log in to the app to extend your due date. If the option to extend your due date is available it will be offered:
1. Go to Payments
2. Select the purchase you would like to pay later
3. Tap Payment options and then tap Extend due date
If you postpone your due date any upcoming payments for this order will be rescheduled to be withdrawn fortnightly from the new payment date. You can see updated payment plans in the app by tapping Show plan on the order page.
If we are unable to collect the payment on the scheduled date, we will try again. If that payment attempt also fails the missed payment will be added to the amount of the next scheduled payment.
Please note, missed payments incur late fees and unpaid debts are sent to debt collection. Chat with our customer service team if you are experiencing financial difficulties, or need extra support to help manage your finances – we are here to help.
The first payment is withdrawn when you check out on the store’s website, the remaining 3 payments are scheduled fortnightly.

You will receive order confirmation by email once the store confirms your order and you will also receive payment reminders by email and in the app.

2. Tap Manage and then Change card
3. Select your preferred card or tap Pay with other card and follow the prompts
Please repeat the steps if you wish to change the payment card for another purchase.
To change the card for your future purchases, you need to change the stored card in your Klarna account.

Payment Issues
To view all your payment plans:
1. Go to Payments to see your orders
2 Select an order to view your payment plan
We’ll also send you an email with the payment plan when the store ships your order. If you don’t see an email from Klarna in your inbox, make sure to check your spam folder as well.
I still can’t find my payment plan
If you don’t see the order you are looking for in the app:
- Verify you logged in with the same email address you used to place the order
- Check you received the confirmation email from the store and log in with that linked email
- Chat with our customer service to change the email address connected to the order
We recommend always using the same email address when shopping with Klarna.
Good to know: If you place an order by signing up with Apple ID with a hidden email address you won’t be able to see the order in the app as it is linked to a random email address. Chat with our Customer Service to change the email address linked to the order.
The pending hold on your card is released when the first payment is charged. Depending on your bank it can take 5 to 7 days for this to be reflected on your bank account.
Good to know:
- The amount of the authorisation hold is restricted from use until the first payment has been charged.
- Sometimes the pending charge isn’t released at the same speed as the actual charge is processed, appearing as if you were charged twice.
The authorisation hold has not been released
Contact your bank or card issuer directly if after 7 days the pending hold has not expired or been released, or if you have questions about their process.
My order was canceled
If your order or One-time card is canceled the authorisation hold will expire within 24 hours.
If the status of your canceled order isn’t updated in the app chat with our Customer Service, with your cancellation confirmation to hand.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue if your payment failed or you received an error message in the app.
Invalid card
First, check if your connected card has expired or if it has been blocked or frozen. Log in to the app to update or change your connected card details:
1. Go to Orders
2. Select your order
3. Choose Change card
Technical error
If you encountered an error message when trying to make a payment in the app take a moment to:
- Check you’re using the latest version of the app
- Clear cookies in your browser
- Be sure you’re not using a limited or restricted network (such as a work connection)
- Check you have sufficient funds available to cover the payment
Failed two-factor authentication
If your card issuer has requested you authenticate your identity for a Klarna payment, be sure to follow the prompts which redirect you to approve the payment.
If you don’t follow the two-factor authentication prompts you will receive an error message and be unable to complete the purchase – so try placing the order again but follow the prompts.
Insufficient funds
If we are unable to collect the payment on the scheduled date, we will try again. So please ensure your connected card is up to date and there are enough funds available for the scheduled payment.
Good to know: If your payment fails, you’ll be sent an email with information on how to resume payment.
Orders can sometimes be split because the order was shipped separately. Each shipment is then listed in the app as a separate order.
A separate payment plan is then generated for each shipment to ensure you are not charged for items that have not yet been shipped.
The total number of payment plans generated for the split order will never exceed the original purchase amount of the order.
But should you have been charged for something you have not purchased, or appear to be charged the wrong amount, let us know by reporting the problem:
1. Go to Orders
2. Select the purchase in question
3. Tap Report a problem and select Statement information is incorrect
You will receive an email from us while your payments are paused. Log in for payment information and updates about your reported problem.
If your outstanding balance is not paid by the due date of the last reminder, the debt is sent to collection.
Can I still pay Klarna directly?
No, once the debt is sent to collection, you will have to contact the debt collection agency directly for payments, questions and settlement information.
You can find contact information for the collection agency printed on your debt collection letter.
Good to know: If a payment is late, you will not be able to continue using Klarna until you’ve paid off your debt. Late payments might also be reported to the credit bureaus.
Late fees are added to your payment plan if:
- The payment fails to be collected on the due date
- The entire payment is missing for a purchase

Debt Collection & Late Fees
If your fortnightly payment is late, we may charge a late fee. Our late fees are capped. If your instalment is late, you will only be charged 1 late fee per late instalment, meaning the most you could be charged is $8.
Total order value | Late fee per instalment | Total max late fees for three late |
---|---|---|
< $25 | $0 | $0 |
$25 - $59.99 | $2 | $6 |
> $60 | $2.66 | $8 |
Need a few extra days? Make sure to use the Extend due date option in your app.
Yes. Klarna will send you a payment reminder by email, text, or push notification 2 days before payment is due.
Declined Purchase
Before you make a(nother) purchase with Klarna it helps to know how to qualify for Klarna’s payment options.
- Make sure you are old enough - You need to be at least 18 in order to use Klarna’s payment options.
- Have a positive credit history - History of positive behaviour as a Klarna customer can improve your chances of being approved, so make sure to not miss or delay a payment.
- Don’t have a lot of debt - If you still have balances on unpaid purchases, it would be beneficial to pay them off to possibly increase your chance of approval.
- Change the amount of your order - The total amount in the shopping cart may be too high, so remove an item(s) and try again.
Good to know: Each purchase is a new decision so one rejection does not mean that your future purchases will always be declined and it doesn’t negatively impact your credit score. Please be aware that attempting too many purchases in a short amount of time may result in being rejected as fraud prevention.
Yes. There is no set limit for how many purchases you can have with Klarna. However, the approval decision when shopping with Klarna depends on the following aspects:
- Your credit history with Klarna
- Your open debt and unpaid orders with Klarna
- The purchase amount of your shopping card
- The information from the external credit look up
You might experience that not all or no Klarna payment options are available to you when making another purchase with Klarna. Different factors, such as missed or delayed payments or reported financial hardship can lead to being blocked from further using Klarna.
We understand that it can be frustrating to be declined for a purchase after being approved in the past. However, our approval process helps Klarna responsibly offer our services to our customers.
Klarna does not approve 100% of all orders and our aim is to support responsible, ethical, and sensible spending habits. How can I increase my eligibility?
- Length of time you have been a Klarna customer may increase your limit. A good payment history with Klarna can improve your chances of being approved
- If you still have balances on unpaid purchases, it would be beneficial to pay them off to possibly increase your spending limit
- The total amount in the shopping cart may be too high, so try to remove an item(s) and try again

- Attempting too many purchases in a short amount of time may result in being rejected (fraud prevention)
- The approval decision is not based solely on credit score, but rather multiple internal data points such as past payment history
If you don’t successfully make a purchase, any hold placed on your payment card will be released within 24 hours. Depending on your financial institution, it might take between 1 to 7 business days for this to reflect on your account.
In the case that you are still being charged for a failed or cancelled purchase, it could be due to the store not fully cancelling the order. Please reach out to our customer service for assistance, with the confirmation on hand that your order has been cancelled.
