Probably fine with the fixed firmware
This SSD shipped with a firmware bug that results in significant performance and lifetime degradation from normal usage - the firmware update 1B2QJXD7 (or newer) needs to be installed manually from Samsung's website, which prevents further deterioration but does not restore SSD performance.
I've had this SSD for several months and with <2TB written, SMART data already shows 6% lifetime usage. For reference, a several-year-old 970 drive with 25TB written shows only 2% usage. Boot times and subjective performance were excellent for the first few weeks but now seem no better than the OEM 980 Pro this replaced.
Fast and reliable
The Samsung 990 Pro series belong to the fastest SSDs on the market and especially with this 4TB version one gets a very good 2400 TBW durability. Samsung used TLC NAND (three bits per cell) in this model, which is not quite as good as the MLC NAND (2 bit per cell) but it appears no one offers any MLC NAND SSDs anymore. The five year warranty underlines how reliable this drive was designed to be.
If you use this as a boot drive, make sure Windows does not short change you on the capacity since the Windows installer will per default use an MBR (rather than GPT) partition table, causing the drive to only offer 2TB of space, i.e., you'll lose ...view more
Has issues
My drive suffered from rapid health loss and then it became corrupted, RMA sent to Samsung as Samsung is asking for drives to be returned if they have rapid health loss so they can investigate
It certainly works!
I jumped from a 500gb 960 Evo to this 1Tb 990 Evo! the increase in performance is amazing! much faster system load times across the board and the two games I installed on this drive particularly!
If you need to replace something older than a 980 or similar or SATA SSD - and need high performance this is the M.2 SSD for you.

Quick and painless upgrade
I upgraded my boot drive by using Samsung Data Migration Software, with a couple clicks and 15 minutes my drive was cloned, I simply made sure my BIOS booted the correct drive, Windows didn't skip a beat.
