Works beautifully out of the box. Lovely and fast for a 2.5. Transfers at 100 MBs average. Always there and connected when plugged in. Plug and play out of the box. I ran an intensive drive test called H2TestW which writes random data to every single byte of the drive and then checks every byte it has written over a period of about 10 hours, the heaviest write/read task a drive will ever experience in its lifetime. The WD Elements SE 2TB passed with flying colors, so I bought another one, and will buy more as the need arises.

I bought this WD Elements SE 4TB Portable External HDD - Black 2.5" - USB 3.0 WD Elements SE 4TB Portable External HDD - Black 2.5" - USB 3.0- the drive is good but I was surprised that it was the old style of USBC- I know, I should have read the description more carefully but I expected to be able to plug it directly into my Mac laptop without faffing around with an adaptor. I bought this WD Elements SE 4TB Portable External HDD - Black 2.5" - USB 3.0 WD Elements SE 4TB Portable External HDD - Black 2.5" - USB 3.0- the drive is good but I was surprised that it was the old style of USBC- I know, I should have read the description more carefully but I expected to be able to plug it directly into my Mac laptop without faffing around with an adaptor.

Attaching to my laptop was simple streamlined and stress-free. Am not techy and was afraid I would make a mistake and destroy the gadget even before I got it to function.
But fortunately am so thankful to this passport, it seems it has been upgraded making a seamless connection to computer and downloading a whole load of files into it was fairly speedy and safe.

I purchased this item to have historical family VHSs copied into an accessible digital mode. The product appears to be fulfilling my hopes for it so far. It is too early to say more than that.
