Kingston DataTraveler Kyson USB Flash Drive - 64GB

The only reason I bought this was because it claimed the fastest write speed advertised of any standard USB-A flash drive: 60MBps write speed.
Real world speed turned out to be 20 - 30 MBps while copying a single 3GB file.
An everyday flash drive such as the DataTraveler G4 achieves 16 - 26 MBps

Note that this is preformatted as FAT32, so there is 4GB file limit. You'll need to reformat this to NTFS or exFAT before you start transferring files if you might find a bunch of them not transferring over.

Build quality is pretty nice being all metal apart from the plastic keyring loop. Would have been nice if that was metal too though as that part of it feels exceptionally flimsy. I brought a few of these for work with a focus on the adverted write speed being 60 MB per second. Lucky to Average 20 MB per second. I checked all hardware and simply put this is a budget drive with a premium look and none of the premium advertised features. I just wanted a "cheap and cheerful" flash drive to act as a Speed Boost drive on my old 2014 laptop that I'm trying to limp along for a bit longer. I knew I wanted at least USB 3.0 performance, and 128GB or better. After hunting about for a couple of hours, I elected to purchase this unit from Kingston for the following reasons:
1) I've always had good results from Kingston
2) Good warranty
3) Slim form factor (the USB ports on my laptop are a bit close together)

Since I'm using this drive as a Speed Boost drive, I can't really speak to "how good it is" as it just does it's thing. I can say that performance on my laptop is improved noticeably - less hard drive bottlenecking, apps open and close faster and more smoothly. In short, it's doing it's job, doing it well, it's not in the way (physically), and I'm happy to have paid a fair price for something that does what I want it to do. Would I like it to have been cheaper? Sure. Of course. But if you're looking for an "all rounder" 128GB drive, that isn't sluggish and won't break the bank, and is small form factor, AND has a good warranty backed up by a solid industry name, this drive is the one for you. Make sure your device has at least first gen USB 3.0 though so you can make use of its pretty good read speed.
