It fulfills the following needs
1. Able to support two 1080P monitors, the 1st with its own power supply while the 2nd one is relied the power via usb-c cable
2. Got a button to turn on my dell notebook from s5 shutdown, that means no longer needs to open the lid to press the power button of my notebook. Also, it is the only way to turn on the notebook from s5 without open the lid, as the recent model of Dell notebook only support wake-on-lan from s3 & s4.
3. Able to copy files between different drives in usb-c external hdd which was fail in my old targus usb 3 hub (with power supply)
4. Better cable management with docking

Works well with apple and Dell notebooks. Using it with two high-resolution screens and no problems to date.

basically worthless. I've used 50 dollar usb-c docks that are better than this.

Over thunderbolt, Displayport basically refuses to work at anything close to its reported capability.

When used with a USB-c device, it correctly sends video but doesn't pass through USB so mouse and keyboard don't work.

I have now tried to use this dock with 5 different displays and 4 different devices, and all have had some breaking issue preventing it from working. I'm going to throw this in the trash and use something that costs half as much and actually works as advertised. basically worthless. I've used 50 dollar usb-c docks that are better than this.

I bought this dell docking station to go with my XPS13 (which of course only has c-type ports) so seems to be going great. Cheaper here than through dell. Very happy with it so far, thanks. This is a great value option for Mac laptops compared to some other bands. It's sturdy and well built, charges a Mac at 90W and all main features work fine. Minor issues are that rear audio jack doesn't work but front one is fine, and DisplayPort outputs only support one monitor as Macs don't support MST.

You'll also need a Thunderbolt laptop running Linux or Windows natively if you want to update the firmware - Dell don't provide a Mac utility for this.

Have been using this docking device for about a month now, 2x 4k screens sourced from XPS15, have no complains whatsoever, except the USB-C cable is a bit too short so you have to keep the docking close to laptop and can't hide it far away from view.
