ASUS RT-AX5400 (AX5400) Dual-Band WiFi 6 Extendable Router

The TP-Link Archer C9 that I've had for the last 8 years was starting to show signs of failure. Random outages required the router to be rebooted so it was time for an upgrade. TP-Link is good manufacturer of routers but sometimes you just want to try something else. I settled on ASUS as I've had multiple PC components from them over the years, including a GTX1060 which was an absolute workhorse and lasted longer than it should have. I've had the router installed to a couple of days now and it's been nothing but bliss. I did turn off the 2.4GHz band as I'm only on a single level and the signal is able to reach the confines of the house (haven't tested outside yet). I've got a printer that was connected via WI-FI and only runs on 2.4GHz so I'll probably just buy an extender with a LAN port and plug it as it's on the furthest opposite wall from the PC. Speeds are blazing fast. I'm on a 300/100 plan and was only getting 100Mbps on the mobile phone when on WIFI but now I'm getting the full 300Mbps. Not sure why I need it as don't stream too much on my phone but it's nice to have. All devices connected with ease and only took me an hour to get everything running (I've got 14 devices) as it should (I love settings though so had to tinker). I've got two desktop PC's, and a Nvidia Shield wired up to the TV in lounge and they didn't blind an eye. Turned on the router and they hooked straight in as you would expect.

Another reason for the upgrade was the parental controls. My 9 year old is now at the age where she's curious (as humans instinctively are) and if I think about what I was looking at on a 56k internet connection back in 1993 it's definitely time to lock her down. I realise this can be done by software but I feel a lot better about it being controlled at the router level. I set it all up this morning and it took about 5 minutes.

Overall I'm really satisfied with all aspects of this router (although being pulled into the future 8 years probably helps). The only downside I could throw in would be the price but who cares if it lasts another 8 years. I would certainly recommend this router.

I decided to replace the Spark modem as getting frequent dropouts with multiple users. I also had to have an extender for the upper level of the house which was frequently dropping out. I am very pleased with the coverage and don't have to use an extender. We have a 4 bedroom plus study house and getting excellent speeds throughout the whole house. The only downside one of the PCs on the home network with an ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card cannot connect to the router. Set up wasn't quite straight forward, as got it all configured and then noticed there was an update to the firmware. After the firmware update the router was not performing so set the router back to default factory settings and reconfigured and all good after that. Have only just set up the router this week so early days but so far happy with the purchase.

My biggest concern was ease of set up as I had read some reviews indicating this could be difficult. My concerns were completely unfounded. Was set up in minutes with the easy-to-follow instructions available via PB Tech website. Also internet speed vastly improved. Very happy with purchase.
