Epson WorkForce EcoTank ET-4850 Inkjet Multifunction Printer

I had an extremely frustrating experience with my HP printer, when my full, genuine, expensive cartridges were rejected because they had sat on the shelf for a while so their warranty had expired. HP support weren't sympathetic, telling me I should just discard them and buy another set of cartridges. I swore never to fall into that trap again (or buy HP) so I bought this printer as a replacement. The ink tanks are fantastic and the printer came with a lot of ink included, which makes the overall package great value. I intend to purchase genuine Epson ink in the future, but safe in the knowledge that it is a choice, not an obligation. The Eco Tank refills are great but I just wish that I could have got an Eco Tank printer that would print an A3.
In the end I settled for a reasonably well spec'd mid to higher end Eco tank and decided to forego the A3 printing. To be fair, I scan way more than I print.
Once the Epson software is installed, this printer runs great. It's a little slow but then again I'm used to large commercial office printers so a budget home option is likely not quite the same!

Happy with the purchase and would make the same purchase again tomorrow. So stoked with how cheap those ink refill bottles are too.

Just purchased this printer and have to say WOW. Easy to setup, Great functions and tons of ink that will last the average user for maybe a year. The cost of the printer is on the high side, but the savings on ink well out weigh the initial cost. The ink is super cheap when you need replacements and the print quality is stunning. I have no negative remarks for this machine. It has a small footprint and super easy to use. If your in the market for cost savings and overall quality this is a no brainer Just purchased this printer and have to say WOW. This purchase is an upgrade on a previous inkjet printer (different brand). Have only had it a month but so far very pleased overall. The colour printing is a vast improvement, and the borderless feature is fantastic for printing A4 colour posters. Only gripe is haven't been able to scan from printer to PC, probably requires just a little tweak somewhere. Really like that it's compact, and to be rid of ink cartridges is great! It prints double-sided automatically, which is more than the drivers suggested. It comes with decent tanks. The print quality is good on normal paper, very good indeed on photo paper. It was easy to setup. It scans at reasonable quality. It was much easier to setup as a network printer than any previous unit I've used. And it's fast enough. For the money, I doubt if you can do better. I've been a Canon loyalist for years but when the latest one died, the eco tanks in this Brother was what attracted me and they seem to be very good value. Top recommended ink tank printer, both by Consumer (October 2024) and by a friend, who replaced his old, well-used Epson with this latest model. And I am completely pleased with every aspect of it. Printing is fast and extremely clear, as is copying and scanning - it does everything I want. It took a few hours on a Sunday and a number of phone calls to Epson's helpline to set it up and make it compatible with my PC on a Sunday, but they answered promptly and made it all work perfectly. This is such great value as you get two full black inks along side the set of colours. It took only a couple of minutes to setup and works perfectly with Linux. We spent a while researching for a multifunction printer which also didn’t cost the earth for ink refills.
We have been very pleased with this printer, it does everything we need to run our home office.

We now have two Epson ET 4850's. They are so economic to run. The claimed page output stacks up and the resulting work is simply great quality. Documents with images on quality paper are outstanding and photos directly onto both Epson and non Epson glossy photo paper are in a par with commercial printers. Our only bug bear is that gray scale prints using the Epson app tend to have a slight bluish tinge. We get around this by using alternate image editing software. We now have two Epson ET 4850's. They are so economic to run. The claimed page output stacks up and the resulting work is simply great quality. I was new to the bottle concept and I'm loving it now as it lasts longer, it's cheaper to print and refilling is an absolutely fool-proof clean process.
I whish it printed faster, but It's still good enough for my needs, which is to print loads of handouts for workshops. I'm very satisfied with the product. The quality is good, the installation was easy and refilling with bottles is a breeze.
