Philips 65PUT7908/79 65" Ambilight 4K Google Smart TV

Recently purchased this tv as an upgrade from an older 1080p tv.

4k is fantastic and the ambilight system is awesome, makes playing games and watching movies so much more enjoyable.

A lot of the drama with these tvs was the OS, I did my research into it and this tv runs a newer Google OS which id say is relatively fast for a tv. Definitely no noticable lag whatsoever.

My only gripe was the time it took me to find the HDR settings so that it could be enabled on my ps5, it's under hdmi settings where you'd turn hdmi edid 1.4 to 2.0 to enable HDR.

The Ambilight is a cool feature and was one of the exciting aspects of this TV. Keep in mind that the lights won't produce quite the same effect if the tv is in a corner vs flatter against the wall, but it should still throw up some cool lights. It's awesome to get a neat feature like Ambilight on a more affordably priced TV like this. Also people get real excited about the TV lights when you tell them.

An older version of this TV is said to have a buggy and slow interface. This new model is a Google TV and gives you all the benefits you'd expect from a Chromecast and more.

This is a 55" TV. I think that this size would great for most living rooms. Ours is a smaller room, the TV even felt a bit oversized at first but they seem to shrink as you get used to seeing it. And it's a great size for movies. With the lights turned down, it is certainly big enough.
During my research, it was also suggested that Phillips TV's use two different types of screens. This 55" won't produce the darker blacks which make the picture look better, but it will look better when viewed from an angle vs straight on (good for larger groups/smaller rooms where people are more spread around the TV).
Whereas the 50" will look better front on due to the deep blacks, but the quality can diminish for those watching the TV on an angle. I don't know how much change in quality you should expect, but this 55" with the reportedly weaker blacks has been perfectly fine for us. (The blacker screens are the even numbered 40", 50" and 60", whereas the wider viewing angles are the odd numbered 45" 55" 65".)

If you're reading these reviews, I think you're looking in the right price bracket and that this TV would be a great pick for you. Better than a Veon I'm hoping in terms of longevity as I'm told that they often pack in, and just as good as a Samsung, which at this price would only be about 40" and without the Ambilight.

Make sure you change the HDMI-CEC configuration from 1,4 to 2.0 to enable HDR support for external devices like Game consoles. You'll get what you paid for. It died after 4 months after. Random on/off and became unusable, even the factory reset won't save you from the hassle. Did a research after experiencing the issue and it's a common problem for the product. Consider this as a warning before purchasing. See image below when it's stuck on a boot loop. Pros: I thought this would be the best I could get with my budget.

Bought ex demo unit but looked new still had the plastic film over the screen, boxed up perfectly, has all accessories. I had a 2018 4k 49' Bravia before this and it is much clearer. I didn't think anything bad of my old TV but with this one next to it I notice its night and day, Panels have improved more than I thought over the years. Very bright, sharp edges, body is sturdy not flimsy, the frame feels like its made from aluminum. While the Ambilight is great and the picture is also ok for the price the storage space is not exactly there, you have to use Google Stream or Alexa to carry full bouquets of viewing. There is no space for updates so that never occurs—continuous reminder tags of running out of memory. And not only the white halo seen through the glass, also actual direct LED light visible from the top of the screen. There seemed to be a gap between the glass panel and the frame. Also dead pixels when you looked close enough on one of its sides.

My previous Philips TV developed backlight bleed over two years in the middle of the screen, but this new one had it right from the very first second.

Had to unfortunately return it for a refund, but PBtech staff were great as usual and they sent me a shipping label to return it. I just packed it really well and dropped it off at my local NZ Post shop (could even have booked a home pickup).
I'm just hoping that the refund will also include the + seventy bucks I paid for shipping to Wanaka. That way, at least, this particular purchase would just be a waste of time, and not a waste of money too - be left out of pocket.
I'm sure if you're not unlucky like me you will have a great experience otherwise, as this is great value for money and the Ambilight is just amazing! :)

PS: Althought this says its compatible with HDR10+, my Xbox Series X said the TV wasn't compatible. Also, unlike the previous model, you can't easily swap between audio outputs (from TV speakers to a home theater). Weird why it wouldn't be possible!

Got this TV as a birthday present for my wife. Having the ambience light was a bonus that really amazed not just her but her friends as well. Being a smart tv, it was quick to connect to the wifi and stay having a strong connection to it. I was a bit fearful the sound would be subpar as seems to be the case with a lot of slim tv's but the sound is quite good for our purposes. Got this TV as a birthday present for my wife. The Philips ambilight tv, is a great idea, the ambilight is different and can compliment some things you watch, however, the one I purchased has bad backlight bleeding around the whole edge, and you can see light showing along the top of the screen coming through which makes viewing 4k movies in Dolby vision look terrible.

After many call about it my answer is, it's not the quality of the tv, and that all TVs of this spec will have backlight bleeding and it is what it is.. which is absolutely wrong, read the description of the specs from Philips.. it says otherwise, like crystal clear picture etc .. so my options were to live with it or return for a refund. I've had to turn the backlight right down to get a decent picture. Only things that look ok is gaming, but any 4k movie especially with the black bars on top and bottom in Dolby vision, looks terrible.
I wish I had something better to say about it. The remote is ok though, and navigation etc. and the sound is fine without a soundbar but been disappointed from the first day. And it's been 3 weeks now.
I'm seriously considering getting a refund.

Pretty good product, excellent price.
The UI can be a little slow sometimes, but the picture is fine and I have had no issues.
The ambilite effect is good though you can tell that there is a low density of LED. Typically you're not looking directly at it though, it just adds the effect Pretty good product, excellent price.
