Okay ish for the money, but buying something that works in the near future.

The included management software is absolutely terrible. It often locks up using 100% of one thread on the CPU, and also managed to render all of the COM ports on my machine unusable by keeping them open to scan for RS-232 UPS's. It was so bad I wrote my own software for it. Need I say more? If you want your machine to auto shut-down, buy a different unit. (if you wish to write your own UPS software, take a look at the Network UPS tools source code for command sets.)

All the UPS circuitry is very inefficient, to the point where it works very well as a footwarmer. Although this means due to thermal limits it cannot actually supply high loads for long periods of time. Internal temperatures sit at 70C just idling on mains power with the battery fully charged.

The output is a square wave. Not all mains equipment likes to run off square waves.

To top this sorry lot off, it has 'crashed' on me, flipping to battery mode for no reason and 5 seconds later shutting down. This took out my desktop and 2 servers. Other machines not on the UPS stayed up, and no lights dimmed indicating a brown out.

If you actually want to protect devices against power-outages, DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. Or any of the defender range. I imagine they will all suffer the same set of issues.

I bought this back in 2016. It works well as a simple battery backup BUT if you want the functionality of automating the shutdown of your computer you need the comms cable to be plugged in. Having the cable plugged in causes the device detection noise to continually go on and off (about every 10 seconds) as it "plugs and unplugs" effectively. This is a real issue when you have the audio on your computer and you hear the connect and disconnect tone while trying to listen to something. Very disappointing. I've unplugged the comms cable now and use it without any smarts. ie. just a battery backup when the power goes out.

I'm using this to supply a small NAS with power until it can safely shut down and an ONT, router and hub. I'm happy with the way it is working. Make sure you grab the latest software from the website as it gives access to a couple more features. This is a great value unit and have used them for servers and desktops. USB cable for communication works well. Use only the Windows Netguardw 1.01 off the website http://powershield.com.au/ not the JAVA/Web based software that is on some cdroms. Allows configuration for shutdown. Email communication for self test, battery replacement etc. Easy to replace batteries after 3 years by pulling off the front. 3 Battery backed ports for you computer and 3 surge only for your Laser printer. So far I have used it for about 3 weeks. As we live rural we use it as a backup for our wireless internet and phone connection, it should be able to keep our connection going for about 6 hours if we have a power cut. The only negative so far is that the sockets for surge protection only and surge protection and backup are orientated differently and also don't allow enough space to use power supplies next to each other. I needed to use a power board in between to use two power supplies in the backup circuit. So far I have used it for about 3 weeks. I have had a Dynamix 1200 Defender for over a year. The only device that is plugged into it is a majorly upgraded 2010 Mac Pro computer. It should still be under the load that the Dynamix UPSD1200 is rated at carrying. However, it seems The Defender is simply not fast enough to stop the computer shutting down in a power cut. For example: Today there was a power outage here that lasted just maybe 1 or 2 seconds duration. In that time the computer instantly shut down. This is what I had hoped the Defender would be able prevent. But it doesn't. No complaints, she runs quiet, has plenty of AC sockets and has so far been doing the job perfectly. Tested through a couple of brown outs and no interruption to power delivery. My previous Dynamix gave up after five years of trusty service during our last major outage so I decided to stick with the brand. Glad I did because the new one has a far superior UI and is far easier to monitor due to the improved display. And then, today, we had yet another outage and I was able to enjoy WiFi while being connected to the UPS for nearly two hours as Northpower fixed the problem (another tree interfering with a line).
