So you're thinking of getting a sweet new Huawei smartphone with Huawei Mobile Services - but what about apps?

Here's four simple ways to get apps on new Huawei devices:

1. Huawei AppGallery

Huawei smartphones come with the Huawei AppGallery as the default app store. You can get heaps of great apps you know and love already, and more are being added every week. Snapchat, Microsoft Office, Epic Games (Fortnite), TikTok, the Opera and Firefox Klar browsers, Here WeGo maps, and even the PB Tech app are available already! Our friends at 2degrees are hard at work to make the 2degrees app and Data Clock available in the Huawei AppGallery soon. Keep checking back for more hot apps, promotions, and special offers.

2. Phone Clone

Huawei's amazing Phone Clone app will transfer most of your essential data - including photos, text messages, call logs, and yes, even apps - from your old phone to your new phone. Just download the Phone Clone app on your old phone, open it on your new phone, and follow the simple instructions to connect. You can use this to get many apps that aren't available in AppGallery just yet, including Air New Zealand, NZ banking apps, and apps from NZ mobile networks like 2degrees, Spark, Skinny, and Vodafone. If your previous smartphone was also from Huawei, you can transfer system settings and much more - but you can still use it on other Android smartphones, and even on iPhone - it's available in the Apple App Store to transfer contacts, photos, and videos to your new Huawei device.

You can download Phone Clone from Google Play here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hicloud.android.clone

3. Huawei Browser

Did you know that many of your favourite apps and services are available on the web? Simply use the preloaded Huawei Browser to access Google Search, Twitter, Facebook, Uber, and much more. You can add handy shortcuts to your favourite sites to your new Huawei smartphone's homescreen - easy.

4. Reputable Third-Party App Stores

AppGallery and the Play Store aren't the only games in town. There are heaps out there, but how do you know which are safe and trustworthy? Here’s three we recommend: Check out F-Droid, a free and trusted repository of open-source Android applications for you to discover. There are many excellent alternatives to services you already use. F-Droid is available online at f-droid.org, and you can download the F-Droid app to install your new favourite apps easily and get the latest updates. If you can't find an app in AppGallery or F-Droid, and it wasn't on your previous smartphone to transfer with Phone Clone, you can also take a look at APKmirror.com - APKmirror is a trusted, safe repository of apps downloaded from Google Play and maintained by the team at popular Android news site androidpolice.com. You can even download older versions of popular apps if you prefer. Finally, another handy place to get apps is the Aurora Store - an unofficial free, open source alternative to Google Play. Download the Aurora Store from auroraoss.com. Note that some apps may not work as expected as they rely on Google's services.

5. Huawei Petal Search

Huawei have built a clever new app called Petal Search – a one-stop search engine for Android apps - available now via AppGallery. Petal Search lets you search for, download, and update apps from multiple third party sources including APKmirror all in one convenient location. You can even place a Petal Search widget on your Huawei smartphone’s homescreen to easily search for the latest app you’re looking for, and use the built-in update function to keep the apps you already have up to date. You can rest assured when browsing third party app stores via Petal Search that Android’s security will not allow a modified app update to be installed over top of an existing, original app – apps are “signed” for safety, and only updates with a matching signature can be installed. Petal Search is rolling out to select Huawei smartphones in recent EMUI updates.
