Cruxtec USB 3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter

I went to buy a different one, actually, but the sales person upsold me to this Cruxtec one. Plugged it into my old laptop that I'm using as a home server and it errored out. It is recognised - as a Realtek device - but doesn't work, which is rather surprising because it does work on ChromeOS (I tested). I bought this a few weeks ago and I’ve been using it with my MacBook Pro 2013 model and it works absolutely fine. Sometimes takes a little bit to connect but when it does it works great.
