I was cautious buying this product given some of the reviews on Amazon, but went ahead as it seemed reasonable value for money/quality compared to other options. You will need to download software from Startech if you don't have a CD drive. Their support service is one of the best I have come across. They sent me the Movavi Video Editor 11 SE software and helped me troubleshoot my set up, including changing the settings from NTSC to PAL so I had colour. Unfortunately, the Movavi software had limited functionality on my Win11 laptop, and wouldn't allow me to export files created or convert to mp4 format. I ended up purchasing Movavi Video Editor 24 separately. This is so easy to use and it all works perfectly. The quality seems similar to viewing my old VCRs but it is a major step down from DVDs etc. I also found that it doesn't like recording very long video clips. Anything beyond about 30 minutes results in my laptop giving me an error message and restarting, but the file sizes are getting very large at this point. Overall I am very pleased with the Startech product, and their online support, but would definitely recommend purchasing video editing software to get the most out of this product.

Bought this cable after watching The Oldschool PC you tube recommendation on how to convert VHS to videotape to digital . The StarTech adapter was used to connect the RCA video and audio output from my Video Recorder to my computer USB port. Unfortunately OBS is not able to edit the MP4 videos that it creates so I am now looking for an MP4 editor. I can start and stop recording when I choose so I now have several MP4 videos per VHS tape. There are one month trial packages which I could use once I have recorded all of my VHS tapes to cut and paste the MP4 files together.
This Startech cable was just what I needed
