This box is amazing. It's basically a very modern pre amp (meaning you've got to have an amp and speakers to listen to it. But that amp and speakers could be in your bluetooth headphones (note it hasn't got a headphone socket), powered speakers, ā traditional amp/speaker combo with line inputs or an amp with digital (optical or coax) inputs and, of course you could feed the raw digital data into a dac and onwards. For managing the sound itself, each input's gain & eq can be set separately or they can be set globally. And each input can be set to automatically switch the Ultra to them when they becomes active, or not.

There's also an automatic room correction process. It is run using the microphone in your device - a wizard takes you they the steps - and you can do a general stereo set up or on for each channel. I've found my best results were from disengaging the subwoofer, running the per channel process then re-engaging the sub output and playing with the sub's volume and crossover in the app. Didn't take long and improved the sound significantly.

Speaking of the sound, I've got to agree with all the reviews. It sounds great. Streamed music and line in (user set sampling up to 192khz/32 bit) sound crystal clear with well defined deep bass, smooth mids and excellent treble (what I can hear with these 57yo ears anyhow). I've spent most of my time listening to Tidal and never tire from any harshness and have never had any connection issues (connected by Ethernet cable to a mesh extender). Bluetooth has surprised me that it's reasonable and doesn't currently have any of the higher bit rate codes. The jury's still out in the phono input. I don't knew if it's as good as the phono stage in my Audio Analogue Puccini SE amp (the TT is a Rega P1) but with it fed through the Ultra, bass management, input gain and room correction are taken care of.

Setup and control via the remote is simple and you can dive into the various settings as deep as you like or not and be happy with the results. It's so simple to use, no manual is necessary. The remote us basic but very useful and is a bluetooth type which is great if you don't have line of sight but I've found if you don't use it for some time it can take a few seconds to start working which I guess is it reconnecting the bluetooth after turning it off to prolong battery life.

The screen is really useful over the wiim Pro and Pro plus. It gives you instant feedback of what it's doing and you can choose various looks (I prefer the vu meter needles but the cover art looks great) and it's also a touch screen which is handy if you mislay the remote and control device.

Wiim devices are getting a name for quality and ingenuity. There are regular updates and each seems to have a new useful function.

I agree with all the reviews I've read on its high audio, build, design and tech quality. This is definitely is a 5* product.

Nb the bluriness in the photos is purely down to my photographic skills. The display in real life is pin sharp

This was a great addition to my stereo - easy to stream lossless music with a good selection of inputs, including HDMI which isn't available on the smaller units. This allows for it to be hooked up to the TV too. Remote is good with pre-sets to quickly access favourite playlists of inputs. The room correction utility is very useful. It now has Qobuz connection which I use for streaming. The screen is nice, showing what is playing or can be turned off and/or set to show a clock - lots of options.

A couple of minor drawbacks:
- it has no Airplay so doesn't pair well with Apple music
- is only has coaxial out but no coaxial in. Was debating on this for an age, but super happy with the sound and the ease of set up. Sounds great even with stink streaming services, but really sings in playing flac and lossless. Very happy. I decided to get the Ultra instead of the Pro plus and a headphone amp because my cats chew on cables (which aren’t cheap) - and an all in one unit seemed to be the best alternative.

I’m using the Ultra to listen to Tidal using wired headphones. It works well, the in-built Amp for the headphone jack is good enough for me. The DAC seems to be great. The big BUT is the excessive lag between Tidal Connect and the Ultra. After a while, the Ultra “takes over” Tidal controls and you have to make adjustments using the somewhat clunky WiiM app which has even less functionality than Tidal.
