If you are like me and have a non smart but cheap and effective Veon TV you won't have any audio out sockets. You would be stuck with the tinny TV speakers but for this nifty little box that allows you and me to send stereo audio from Chromecast to any audio amp, in my case a Digitech amp from Jaycar. And presto - home theatre! It does need to be powered however but just use a spare TV usb port and the supplied cable. ok I'll start with the good part, it works with no issues on the audio side of things.

I have a few issues with it operationally, for one it takes ages for the monitor to realize there's video coming in and it will say no signal if there's no pc to trigger the auto on for the screen. the screen won't see the hdmi signal without a pc plugged in so in other words it won't work at all by itself, I've tried two different pc monitors and they're both the same with my particular unit just a blue screen. I believe it's messing up the hdcp locking signal on start up which is causing the monitors auto on to not lock on to the incoming signal it literally takes a minute for the screen to figure itself out. Also shows artifacts occasionally on the sides of the screen while displaying 4.3 format, kinda negative review but it's the reality of trying to use this unit atm.

the product works as expected could use a bit more marking in Video in and out. I bought this because I wanted to plug a Chromecast into a spare monitor which has a faulty sound output. I'm only using cheap speakers so this was ideal for my situation. It works as promised. I've been using it for several weeks now.

It is worth noting that although it comes with a USB cable to power it, they don't include a mains adapter, so you have to have something to power the USB cable. Not a big problem - just saying.

It is also worth noting that the audio output is stated as 2.1 stereo, so I presume this is still all you get even if you use the included TOSLINK adapter to connect an optical cable. If you are wanting to connect a fancy sound system with a Dolby decoder or similar, you may want to consider finding a higher spec device than this one.
