I have a lot of WD red 4TB (5400 rpm) drives for my desktops and NAS - none of them failed so far.
This time I opted for the 10TB (7200 rpm) but was worried about the noise level.

This performs exactly as I expected. I added it to my Synology NAS which was a very simple process even for a pensioner. It was plug and play giving me ample LAN storage for the foreseeable future. Not the first WD Red to die on me. But I think this may be the last. Barely used at all in my NAS setup with low hours (not always on). Just used to store sensitive data. Randomly died on me less than 18months in, and since I can't wipe it, I can't RMA it. I'm not giving over a drive with sensitive information on it, despite it being dead.

The competition's failure rate has dropped since I was last in the market, might be time to stop falling for the WD Red marketing hype, especially with the non-competitive pricing. I always use Western Digital, and till now have always used Blue, but although the superior Red Plus is usually more expensive it was now a bit cheaper, so I swapped my main internal drive from Blue to Red Plus and moved the Blue into USB caddies to become backups.
