Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 (2025) Dual SIM Smartphone - 8GB+256GB - Midnight Black

My wife and I were looking to upgrade from our previous phones (Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro) that we both had been very impressed with. Had them for ages (since Jul 2020) and whilst they were still sufficient we wanted the NFC features and to have it operating a bit snappier. Did our research and landed back at the Xiaomi brand and in particular the Note 15 Pro, then applied some basic filters to actually just get what we needed rather than all bells and whistles. This then led us to the Note 14. Chose 4G as the NZ 5G coverage is not at a high speed level yet anyways and saved $100 off by getting the 4G model.

Was very easy to transfer from the old phone to the new and were up and running fully within 2hrs (that included the transfer of all data).
2 Weeks on and the new phone is going great, no complaints - does everything we wanted it to do but faster - oh and the camera is bloody great too (this was likely the biggest upgrade over the Note 9 we noticed).

So great value - looks good and operates excellently. (only 4 stars as nothing gets 5 stars)

Im a dark brown tongan but every photo i take of myself i end up looking like a tanned asian. It is genuinely ridiculous. this is on the normal camera app not tiktok or anything. This phone takes way too long to charge no matter what cable or wall adapter ive tried. xiaomi have not been helpful as they keep telling me to use the official charger but they never included one or have one for sale. Phone was great at first and felt like an absolute steal for the price. However motnhs on its become really slow and can struggle in some apps. I can confirm its not a ram issue as it rarely uses more than 6gb of it nor is a storage issue as i have yet to use half of it. speaking of the phone gradually over time downloads ads that it shows you on the main screen and lock screen. these ads appear intermittently and since they live locally they can appear even in airplane mode. I would have like this phone to last 2-3 years if not more but it is disappointing that by end of this year I will have to seriously look into a replacement. So on one hand the battery life on this is great, the screen is nice and you get a lot of storage for the price. I also really like how snappy the phone feels.
However it charges quite slowly, most likely due to the fact it gets very hot by 10 minutes and I think its throttling itself.

I thought the reviews were exaggerating but man the ads are crazy intrusive on this thing. its a real shame because the phone is absolutely fantastic otherwise for the price. Amazingly you dont get the ads on kids mode so my nephew has got an early christmas present. Upgraded to a Note 14 after 5 years on a Note 9 Pro. The Note 14 is great with more RAM and storage, its also lighter. Overall, I'm very happy with it.
