Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 - 1 Pack - Black

We brought this as we were moving house and our cat likes to go on 5 day adventures. Exceeded our expectations, simple set up through the smart things app, consistent tracking and lost tag mode a plus, slips right through a collar and not massive or heavy for our 3kg cat compared to proper cat trackers, although occasionally will get food on it, luckily its water resistant. Found the runaway multiple times with this tracker and it even stayed on the collar once when the cat decided to leave it in a bush. It is limited to bluetooth and the bluetooth of others around you which is fine if you live in a built up area. Buying a second one for the old cat and definitely a fantastic option for cat tracking.

I have some Samsung appliances controled by SmartThings so that I bought this one. But I did not know this Smart Tag is only supported by Galaxy devices. I have smart phones but they are not Samsung Galaxy so that it cannot be set up with my phones. I realized it after the purchase. Lets start with the negatives, this device can only be used with Samsung devices - not all android devices, and even worse, only newer Samsung devices that Samsung have approved to use the SmartThings app can. The final negative, is that the Samsung find device network is voluntarily opt-in, its not enabled on all Samsung's by default (like Apple does with their find device network on iOS devices), this makes the number of devices tracking these tags massively reduced compared to the Apple Airtag.

Now on with the good things, device is much better shaped than Airtag for putting onto pet collars, keyrings, etc. The battery is use replaceable which is great, Airtags get thrown out when they go flat, SmartTags can easily have their battery replaced. Smart tags have pretty good range, I have connected to it over a hundred meters away before when having dropped something in park (it was invisible far away in long grass but phone still connected). Devices are very rugged, one of mine was dropped on a road (cat's collar came off in a cat fight), it had been run over (breaking the collar) but survived and has been used for months afterwards. They are very water and dirt proof. SmartTag2 attached to my cats collar has been dragged through mud, sand, cat food, and was getting dunked in water every time she drank. When time to replace the battery, it was quite difficult to open because of all the grotty schmu jammed around the battery tray, but the seal had worked and kept all that from getting into the device. When I was on holiday my cat didn't like the person feeding it (or missed me), and went missing. She was found after having walked 8.5KM from my house, with the help of SmartTag2 on collar. Absolutely would NOT have been found without the tag, wouldn't have had a clue to be looking that far away. Although I only got location updates every few hours on the tag (seen by other Samsung devices) when the cat was missing, it was enough to know the rough area, and the minute I got a new ping several friends and family members converged on the location to look for (and found) the cat. The tag is quite large, but its not very heavy, my cat didn't mind wearing it. After my cat sadly passed away, another cat now wears it, and it also doesn't mind it. (I have 2, one black, one white).

So easy to set up, and great not just for using in our luggage, but a quick squeeze and I can locate my phone easily if I have left it on mute. Also grat attached my work keys. So so handy the design of it with the finger hole. Husband has airtags, and this is so much easier - not having to unscrew a slippery disk to reset. I love it!! Works OK but setup is a bit of a pain. Tried to get three to stay connected at once but eventually read only two can actually be connected at any one time. U can still use more than two even though they don't stay connected at the same time. Confused, so was I. Works OK but setup is a bit of a pain. Used this during my last trip to Mebourne and Indonesia and was really impressed. I had a chipolo before which ran out of battery and frankly did a terrible job. This Samsung tag updated quickly during my travels and was able to track my luggage well as I went.
I haven't had the issue, thankfully, of luggage left behind yet since getting this, so not sure how much worse it would or would not work then. Bu so far, very happy. They were easy to load on to my phone. I was hoping for a little more exactness on location, but it is clear as to the area. I could tell they were at home, but not exactly where in the house they were.
I suppose that's where the beeper comes in to play. I was able to choose which sound I wanted them to make and I chose what I hope will be heard the best from inside a suitcase.
I like the fact that the battery is supposed to last 500 days. They were easy to load on to my phone. I was hoping for a little more exactness on location, but it is clear as to the area. I could tell they were at home, but not exactly where in the house they were.
