The A3 scanner for demanding graphic art and business users with 2400 dpi resolution, 3.8 optical density and network capability. Unlike many competitors in its class, an image scanned by the Expression 10000XL is processed by the onboard ASIC chip, ensuring high speed scanning by reducing the scanner's dependence on the PC's processor.

High Resolution

For graphics professionals and photograph enthusiasts demanding only the very best in scanned image quality, the Epson Expression 10000XL scanner scans at a high resolution of 4800 dpi. To achieve this, it utilises the revolutionary improved Matrix CCD (Charge Coupled Device) technology and Auto Focus. The Auto Focus feature automatically determines the optimal pinpoint focus up to 6mm above the glass, making mounted film scanning perfection even easier to achieve.

For even greater definition, the scanner's Micro Step Carriage Drive utilises sub-scanning to heighten the resolution; ensuring graphic and image scans capture the full detail of the originals. The image scanning detail of the Epson Expression 10000XL is such that quality graphic enlargements can now be easily achieved right on the desktop.

The EXPRESSION 10000XL's optical density is a significant advancement over earlier models and enhances the scanner's ability to capture full details in both highlight and shadow, ensuring exceptionally clear and highly detailed A3 size scans.

A3 Scanning

For graphics professionals, the EXPRESSION 10000XL's ability to scan at any size up to A3 is a major benefit. Now, documents such as brochures, magazines spreads and CAD/GIS drawings up to A3 can be scanned in a single pass. Adding even further to its broad scanning flexibility is the two-up A4 scanning; and with an optional Auto Document Feeder (ADF), the EXPRESSION 10000XL automates the otherwise time-consuming task of scanning documents of up to 100 pages.

Film Scanning

The Epson EXPRESSION 10000XL may be used in conjunction an optional high speed, all-in-one moving carriage-type Transparency Unit (TPU). This advanced film scanning feature provides support for two of the four different style film holders at a time:

- 2 x 24 frames of 35 mm strip film; or
- 2 x 15 frames of 35 mm mounted film; or
- 2 x 6 frames of medium format 120/220 (6 x 18cm) strip film; or
- 2 x 4 frames of 4 x 5-inch film.

The EXPRESSION 10000XL scanner is capable of simultaneously scanning strip film or mounted slides. For the photo enthusiast it's worth noting that scanning negatives can actually result in a larger image and greater detail than photograph scans. Better still, you can control the size of the prints and crop any unwanted elements.

High Speed

Along with the new high speed moving carriage-type TPU, the EXPRESSION 10000XL features the ability to connect to the PC using either a USB 2.0 interface or high speed Firewire.

Another speed enhancing characteristic of the EXPRESSION 10000XL is its new bluish lamp. This innovative technology addresses the traditional problem associated with using pure white light to scan negatives, which requires longer exposure time for blue image data. With its bluish lamp, the scanner has a much shorter exposure time for blue, resulting in higher speed scanning of negatives.

The EXPRESSION 10000XL is also capable of immediate power-on scanning, rather than the user having to wait during a warm-up period.

Networkability

Along with the standard USB 2.0 and IEEE1394 (FireWire.) interfaces for high-speed data transmission, the EXPRESSION 10000XL can be connected directly to a local area network (LAN) using the optional Network Image Express Card. In environments such as busy offices, where multiple users require access to the scanner's speed, quality and versatility, this represents major benefits in productivity and time/money savings.
