This heatsink is slightly more effective than the flat heatsink that came with my motherboard. Peak temperatures are 2C lower, down from 66 to 64 degrees with a Lexar NM790. I suspect it would do better if there was more airflow, but getting airflow down low on the motherboard is difficult. If you need a lot of cooling in an odd place, buy a heatsink with a fan on it. If you need a basic heatsink this one is fine, but it's not an upgrade from motherboard heatsinks. I took me about 3 goes to figure out the correct way to assemble this thing. There are no instructions, so you just have to use your intuition. There is not much to it though, just two sides, 6 screws and a bunch of different heat/sticky pads of different colours, which I have no idea what is different about each one. My second NVME didn't have a heatsink, and it was getting toasty behind the GPU. The controller was getting relatively hot under load and would go above 70c (highest I saw was 77c). Package temps were about 10-15c cooler than controller temp without heatsink. Package temps at idle were at high 40s, sometimes low 50s.

With this heatsink installed I'm seeing a roughly 15c reduction in controller and package temps compared to having no heatsink. The NVME controller now goes up to the low 60s (mostly in the 50s) when previously it could go up to the mid-high 70s. Package temps at idle now at high 30s to low 40s.

There aren't any instructions but it seemed straightforward to install. You apply the thermal pad(s) onto the NVME depending if it's single or double-sided, then sandwich it between the two pieces which screw together. Comes with screws and a screwdriver.
