The rings have strong adhesive to stick to your phone case and strong magnets for holding your phone on a phone mount. However the rings are quite thick and add to sense of bulkiness. The edges are also sharp and potentially could scratch something you put your case down onto. Overall recommend. I bought this MagSafe adapter for my iPhone 11 Pro Max (which does not have a MagSafe adapter). I attached it on the phone itself rather than putting it on the casing it self. The 3M sticker was sticky for the first few hours but as the phone gets warmer (due to charging), the “stickiness” of the 3M started to wear off. As I was detaching my MagSafe charger from the phone, the magnets came off with this.

Yes it definitely works when it is applied directly to iPhone 8, it snaps well and can hang on magnet upsides down. This is not so straightforward when it comes to cases, when the ring is attached outside to the back of the case it snaps well, but won't necessary stay put when turned upsides down or vertically depending on total weight of the case and protection glass. It sometimes does not work when it is attached to the phone itself and wrapped with the case: 1. some cases don't have enough room to fit the ring inside, some cases are just too thick and magnet force would be insufficient. It works for my purpose inside of the case: I attached it to the back of the phone and wrapped to the Lifeproof iPhone SE(2020)/8/7 Fre Case (without logo window), this case basically has some gap between it's back and the phone, with a little line of foam in the middle, I made little cuts in the foam for the ring and phone with a ring fit nicely, and case closed well, phone now sticks well to the wireless charger so I don't need to spend time catching the exact right position, if I pick up the phone the charger stays connected to the phone, this won't work so nice the other way however, if I lift the charger by the wire phone will stay, but if I shake it a little bit it will detach.
