I picked up the R1280DB after returning the R1280DBs. PBTech are really good about this and only charged a small restocking fee. I really wanted to like the newer DBs speaker, as it has a much better remote, but the general dry tone and more flat-curve music response was a bit sharp for my taste. The R1280DB has a much bigger 116mm woofer as opposed to the 101mm woofer in the R1280DBs. The DBs is tuned to go with a subwoofer hence it has a lighter sound. The bigger woofer in this older model DB makes for a much deeper and richer tone presence. To match the bigger woofer, they de-tune the tweeter a bit. Unfortunately the Bluetooth feature is a bit basic sounding, and not nearly as good as the wired inputs, but I got it for wired use, so Bluetooth for me is a nice-to have. The digital inputs and analog RCA inputs are excellent. I am very happy with the Edifier R1280DB Active Speaker.

These really are great value for the price especially if you get them when on special. I use with my PC and or phone for listening to music in my office, bluetooth works flawlessly, sound quality is great, also nice to be able to adjust the bass and treble. Bought these as my old 2.1 system stopped working. I was hesitant not having a sub however they do not disappoint, loud, good clarity and great bass. love the wood look, fits in nicely with my set up. Only con I can think of is cables are a little short for how I wanted to set them up, you have approx. 1.2m -1.5m of power cable and RCA so the main unit has to be close to your PC/power source. Managed to get them set up on the shelves above my desk with little fuss though. Comes with a 3.5mm cable adapter which was handy. I haven't used the Bluetooth yet so can't comment on it. I have had Logitech before but they only seem to last a few and get distortion and a weak sound with static. These speakers were purchased for my computer but were so good I use them for my TV. Quality finish, the Bluetooth connection is seamless, there is enough bass without having to have a subwoofer (this application is in a small room, probably 20 sq/m area. I got them on one of PB Tech's deals which make it real good value for money. I have a set of M-audio studio monitors and there is certainly not a big difference in clarity. You need a little space behind the speakers for the woofer to function optimally so just make sure of the depth of the book shelfs. I love these speakers! Our micro stereo system broke and these speakers connect to our TV and have Bluetooth so we can play anything on them from our phones.
